The Future is Female Mentorship Program FAQ’s

What is the Future is Female Program?

The program is a Public Relations (PR) and communications mentorship program dedicated exclusively to the business development needs of African Tech female founders.

Do I need to have raised significant money?

If you have raised money (pre-series A) magnificent, however, this is not a requirement.

Our focus is to work with female founders and businesses that provide an excellent service or have an innovative product that will serve Africa and Africans.

I am a male business owner. Can I apply?

Sorry guys but, no you can’t. The program is aimed at African women based on the continent or in the Diaspora, and are launching or growing a tech business for African markets or serving Africans in the Diaspora.
If your start-up has a team of registered co-founders and at least one is a woman, you can apply.

Do I have to own an incorporated or registered business?

Yes, and we will require proof of registration as part of the application process. The program’s objective is to provide PR and communications training to established businesses that have already gained traction in the market and are now seeking to raise their brand visibility and reputation.

What is the purpose of the Future is Female Program?

The program has been launched to provide the underserved market of African female founders of early-stage start-ups with the PR and communications insights, knowledge, and skills needed to grow their business.

  • Your company is Africa-focused serving African markets or Africans in the Diaspora.
  • The company is an early-stage start-up (pre-series A investment).
  • You have a business plan in place.
  • You have a minimum viable product (MVP)
  • You have launched your start-up and have initial traction (i.e., money, users, etc.)

What types of businesses can apply?

While the program welcomes applications from a vast cross-section of businesses and sectors, we are giving start-ups that focus on health, education, finance, agriculture, and sustainability special consideration. We will also pay special attention to businesses that address the needs or provide services for African women and girls in African markets or the Diaspora.

What is the selection process like?

An online application portal will open at noon (WAT) on Monday, June 8, 2020, and close at 11:59 pm (WAT) on Monday, June 29. The CMM team and corporate partners will select ten female founders to participate in the inaugural The Future is Female Program and become part of the Class of 2020.

When will the selected businesses be announced?

We are announcing the successful female founders on Monday, July 20, 2020.

What happens after selection?

The selected businesses/mentees will become members of the Class of 2020. The program will take place virtually, and the businesses/mentees will be mentored and invited to participate in a master class led by Claudine Moore MD/Founder of CMM and Adjunct Professor, New York University. Following the master class will be three online, one hour, one-on-one sessions. The individual customized sessions will align with the needs of each mentee and their business.  CMM team members and corporate partners will lead the individual sessions.
